A database of 1,495 AI startups connected to Y Combinator and a16z — where founders are building, who they sell to, and where verified funding is concentrating.

Founder attention

Where founders are building

Company count by primary industry. A larger category signals more founder attention and experimentation — usually alongside more competition. Click any industry to filter the map below.

    Customer

Who the products are built for

Business type is tracked separately from industry, so the market a company serves stays distinct from the customer who pays. A healthcare startup can be B2B, B2C, B2G or Mixed.

      Methodology

      How to read this data

      Scope

Publicly listed AI startups connected to Y Combinator and a16z, from January 2024 through July 2026. The a16z portion covers public Speedrun companies and publicly announced investments; confidential investments are not visible in public data.

      Classification

Each company gets one primary industry based on the market it serves. Business type — B2B, B2C, B2G, Mixed — is tracked independently, because who pays is a different question from where the problem lives.

      Company count is founder attention

A large category means more founders are building there. It does not measure revenue, survival, market quality or future success — and it usually means more competition.

      Funding confidence

Funding evidence has been deeply researched and audited, with accepted totals classified by confidence where a usable public amount or program minimum was available. Funding is shown for 1,494 of 1,495 companies; the rest are marked "Not yet researched", which is not a claim that they raised nothing.
